South Auckland

About Us

The South Auckland Branch is one of 50 national branches working on a variety of conservation activities including re-forestation, lobbying, bird monitoring and weed-busting.

We are the only independent, community-based voice for nature in our region and our members and supporters have responded to many threats to the local environment and in doing so helped shape the attitude of our South Auckland community.

Our monthly meetings are open to the public and always feature presentations on a diverse range of local and national topics.

We have an active Kiwi Conservation Club with exciting activities that introduce children to nature and teach them to value native plants and animals.

What We Do

The South Auckland branch is involved in forest restoration, pest busting, litter-picking and improving the region’s waterways. This branch also looks after its two reserves, Olive Davis & Ngaheretuku which require constant up keep and attention. More...

Save Cheesemans Bush

This magnificent stand of ancient native bush is threatened by Auckland Transport’s Redoubt Rd-Mill Rd roading plans – even though it is meant to be protected by covenant.

Branch Projects

South Auckland Branch manages 2 of the 38 New Zealand Forest and Bird reserves and sanctuaries.

The Olive Davis & Ngaheretuku Reserves are vestiges of the broadleaf podocarp forest that once covered Auckland and which were milled for kauri, rimu and totara.

They are currently being regenerated and we need green thumbs to help us with our regular planting sessions.
