The objective of Branch advocacy is:
to improve the health of our natural ecosystems
to reduce the impact of our built infrastructure and associated activities on the natural environment
to influence urban planning, policy and the District Plan
to draw attention to matters of conservation that need addressing.
It does this by engaging in the consultation process through discussion documents prepared by Greater Wellington Regional Council and the Wellington City Council. The Branch will also initiate discussion with these authorities and local MP's, when appropriate.
The focus is on matters that relate to or have a direct or potential impact on reserves, streams, open spaces, remnant forest and wetland, coast and harbours i.e. the habitat of our endemic fauna and flora.
The response time allowed for input to discussion documents is often very short and members are encouraged to get their contribution to the Branch Secretary without delay.
